Privacy
This is a portfolio site. It has no accounts, no sign-up and no contact form, so I never ask you for personal details. It does use two analytics tools and an assistant you can type into, and this page says plainly what each one does.
What runs on this site
Two third-party tools load on every page:
- Google Analytics 4 counts visits and tells me which pages people read, roughly where in the world they are, and what kind of device they used.
- Microsoft Clarity does the same counting, and also records how a page was used: mouse movement, scrolling, clicks and taps. Those recordings can be played back and aggregated into heatmaps.
I use both for one reason: to see which case studies people actually read, and where they give up. That tells me what to fix.
Rook, the assistant
The mark with the green dot opens an assistant that answers questions about this site. It sits idle until you click it. If you never do, nothing below applies to you.
When you send it a question, that question and the rest of your conversation go to Anthropic, which runs the model that writes the answer. Anthropic processes the message to generate a reply. Don't type anything into it you wouldn't put in a public message — it is a question box on a portfolio, not a private channel.
The conversation lives in your browser tab and is gone when you close it. I don't have a copy, and there's no database of chats. What I do store, for a day or two, is a count of how many questions came from your network address so that one visitor can't run up the bill. That count is filed under a one-way hash of your address combined with a secret, not the address itself, so it can't be read back or matched to you.
The assistant only knows what's published on this site. It can't act on anything, and it can't reach me — for a real conversation, email [email protected].
What gets collected
Both tools set cookies and collect a truncated IP address, browser and device information, the pages you visit, and how you move through them. Clarity masks text content by default in its recordings.
I cannot see your name, your email or your exact address, and I do not try to work out who you are. I do not sell anything, and there is no advertising on this site.
Who else sees it
Analytics data sits with Google and Microsoft under their own terms; anything you type into Rook is handled by Anthropic under theirs. All three are worth reading if you want the full picture: Google Privacy Policy, Microsoft Privacy Statement and Anthropic Privacy Policy.
How to opt out
Turning on Do Not Track or a tracking blocker in your browser will stop both tools. Blocking cookies for this site has the same effect. Nothing on the site breaks if you do.
If you are in the EU or UK and want your data removed, email me and I will pass the request on. Neither tool gives me a way to look you up individually, so the practical remedy is usually deletion at the source.
